I am a native Tanzanian in Germany, with quarter Indian roots. I reflected on where I grew up (Tanzania) to where I migrated to (Ireland and Germany). How did I experience, witness, or contributed towards racism and racial microaggressions? For example, I wrote a poem in my mother tongue Swahili, asking questions on the everyday language we use i.e. if some of the phrases and nicknames are discriminatory. You don’t have to be in America to tackle racism. Tackling racism starts with ourselves, family, and immediate community.

I read quietly. Here for mostly poetry. I post occasionally and, during my absence, enjoy the pinned index. More at www. gloria-gonsalves.com
